What's it all about?

The Level 2 Certificate in Fashion and Textiles is a very hands-on course designed to further develop your practical skills in pattern cutting, garment construction, upholstery, advanced stitching skills, and more.

Designed with a career in the textiles industry in mind, the course is underpinned by in-demand industry skills and a sound knowledge of best practice.

You will develop stitching skills using industrial machines; advanced pattern design, making and cutting; and advanced creative illustration of patterns and styles. A range of industry-led techniques and methods are embedded.

Course information

You will study the following units:

  • principles of fashion and design
  • health and safety
  • pattern construction
  • garment construction
  • stitching skills
  • textiles industry knowledge.

You will be required to have successfully completed the Level 1 Award in Fashion and Textiles or be able to demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge and competency.

Assessment will be carried out via practical observation, completion of assignments and externally marked exams.

The purpose of this qualification is to further develop your textiles skills, allowing you to move on to employment, progress to an Apprenticeship in fashion, upholstery or similar, or to start your own fashion and textiles business such as in the areas of wedding dress design or clothing alterations.
