The Junior Automotive Academy at City College Plymouth is an opportunity for 14 to 16 year olds who wish to learn and develop new skills in this industry and learn with confidence and style. For those who are thinking of a career in the automotive industry, it will whet your appetite for joining us in the future to train professionally at the College. Boots and overalls will be supplied, plus the use of all tools and equipment.

Course information

We will take you through a programme that is both fun and enjoyable and enables you to explore vehicle systems and repairs in the automotive industry. Working within a state-of-the-art workshop will teach you the skills required by employers and encourage teamwork and motivation.You will learn about:

  • engines
  • cooling and lubrication systems
  • braking systems
  • steering and suspension systems
  • wheels and tyres.

You will need to be aged 14 to 16 and have a genuine interest in developing your mechanic skills.

There are no exams.

You may wish to choose motor mechanics as a career following this course and will have valuable skills if you wish to pursue a full-time programme or Apprenticeship at the College.
