What's it all about?

The VTCT Level 2 Award in Skin Tanning Techniques is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills to provide self tanning services to specific areas of the body.

You will learn about manual and spray tanning treatments and how to use professional tanning products such as the tan gun and compressor. You will also learn about the contraindications to tanning treatments, key ingredients and the benefits of the treatment.

The purpose of this qualification is to develop your skills in tanning application and beauty therapy and will provide you with the foundation for further learning.

Course information

This unit is about the application of a variety of self tanning products to specific areas of the body, including the face, neck and shoulders, lower arms and hands, lower legs and feet. To carry out this unit you will need to maintain effective health, safety and hygiene procedures throughout your work.

You will learn to consult and communicate with your clients to ensure a professional service is given.

There are no specific entry requirements for this course, however a good level of English is required, along with a positive attitude and a passion for the industry.

As part of this qualification you are required to produce a portfolio of evidence. A portfolio will confirm the knowledge, understanding and skills that you have learnt. It may be in electronic or paper format.

Your assessor will provide guidance on how to prepare the portfolio of evidence and how to show practical achievement and understanding of the knowledge required to successfully complete this qualification.

Practical assessments will be carried out on peers in the class and on external clients.

Following successful completion of this course you may progress onto a level 2 beauty course or an Apprenticeship.
