What's it all about?

Ready to jumpstart your career while learning and earning at the same time? An Apprenticeship is a great way for you to dive straight into your chosen career. You’ll split your time between learning on the job with experienced professionals and attending the College to gain essential knowledge. It’s hands-on, practical, and you’ll be earning a qualification while you work. Expect to build real skills, make connections, and have fun getting a head start in your future career!

As a Carpentry and Joinery apprentice, you’ll work with wood-based materials to create and install essential building components. You can specialise as a Site Carpenter, focusing on installations like doors and roofs on construction sites, or as an Architectural Joiner, crafting detailed components such as windows and staircases in a workshop setting.

You will learn how to use hand and power tools, collaborate with other construction professionals, and maintain safety standards. This Apprenticeship provides hands-on experience and the skills to thrive in the construction industry.

Course information

This Apprenticeship will cover various areas including the following:

  • core carpentry techniques
  • joinery methods
  • health and safety regulations
  • understanding the construction industry.
This Apprenticeship spans 24 months, combining practical work experience with study. At least 20% of your time will be dedicated to off-the-job training, where you’ll gain valuable knowledge and skills through structured learning and hands-on practice. The remaining 80% will be spent working within an organisation, applying your learning in real-world tasks such as installing structural components, creating bespoke joinery items, interpreting technical drawings, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

For the best chance of success, learners are required to have a minimum of grade 4 (C) in English and maths.

The end point assessment will consist of a multiple-choice test, a practical assessment with questions and an interview underpinned by a portfolio of evidence.

Following successful completion, you could progress onto employment within the sector. This could include roles such as a site carpenter, architectural joiner, master carpenter, etc.
