The Certificate in Education and Training (CETT) will provide you with the skills and knowledge to do this. This is a weekly evening course delivered over one full academic year and is ideal for those who are practical skills teachers or trainers.

Course information

This qualification will provide you with a fundamental understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer in relation to legislation, equality, diversity, inclusivity and meeting the needs of learners.

On completion of this course, you will be able to use initial and diagnostic assessments and plan and deliver inclusive teaching and learning. You will also be able to assess learning and use appropriate resources to support effective learning.

You will be expected to engage with a range of reading material, carry out research, complete reports, write essays, plan lessons, create resources and be observed teaching or training in your practice context.

You must be 19 years or older and will need to attend an interview and complete a skills scan before enrolment to determine if you meet the entry requirements.

You must have 30 hours of teaching or training practice during the course, over which you have a degree of control. Your practice must be to a small group of learners.

You must demonstrate proficiency in level 2 English and possess strong digital skills to complete the required assignments.

You will need to have time available to dedicate to home study and be able to commit to the full learning programme.

You will be required to complete a range of written assignments and complete observations of practice alongside the development of a teaching practice portfolio.

Upon successful completion, depending on your skills, knowledge and experience, you may able to progress onto a further qualification of study in education or training, such as the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DETT).

Alternatively, you may wish to study a qualification in assessment or internal quality assurance.

Successful completion of this certificate can lead to employment as a teacher or trainer.
