What's it all about?

Are you thinking about becoming a hairdresser, stylist, beautician, or beauty therapist? This level 1 qualification will give you an in-depth introduction to the hair and beauty sector. It provides a fun and inspirational insight into the industry and will build on your skills to allow you to progress to the next level.

Course information

You will learn a range of different units depending on what interests you the most, hair, beauty or a bit of both. A taste of the units you could be studying are:

  • introduction to the hair and beauty sector
  • presenting a professional image
  • styling women’s hair
  • basic make-up
  • basic skincare
  • themed face painting
  • nail art
  • working with others
  • creating an image based on a theme
  • creating a hair and beauty image
  • health and safety
  • salon reception duties
  • shampooing and conditioning
  • plaiting and twisting
  • the art of colouring hair
  • styling men’s hair.

You will also study English and maths as part of a full-time study programme.

You will need to undergo an initial assessment, but there are no specific entry requirements for this course.

You will be assessed by written assessments, assignments and tests.

On successful completion you may progress to level 2 hairdressing or beauty therapy courses at the College or even an Apprenticeship.
