As an Electrician apprentice, you will play a vital role in the electrical industry by ensuring the safe installation and maintenance of electrical systems in residential properties. You will work closely with homeowners, builders, and other professionals to ensure that all electrical work complies with relevant standards and regulations. Your responsibilities will include installing lighting, power systems, and appliances, as well as diagnosing and repairing electrical faults.

This Apprenticeship provides comprehensive hands-on experience and specialised training in domestic electrical work. You will gain valuable skills in wiring, fault finding, and the use of industry-standard tools and techniques. Additionally, you will be trained in safety regulations and the latest industry standards, ensuring that you are well-prepared to work independently or as part of a team in a variety of residential settings.

Course information

This Apprenticeship will cover various areas including:

  • installing and maintaining electrical systems in residential properties
  • diagnosing and repairing electrical faults
  • ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations 
  • understanding and implementing electrical designs and plans
  • collaborating with other trades and professionals on-site
  • testing and certifying electrical installations.
This Apprenticeship spans 36 months, combining practical work experience with structured learning. At least 20% of your time will be dedicated to off-the-job training, where you’ll develop the skills and knowledge necessary to excel as a qualified electrician. The remaining 80% will be spent applying your learning in real-world scenarios. 

The entry requirements for this Apprenticeship will be decided by the employer, but may typically be five GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above.

The end point assessment consists of an observation of practical competence, a scenario based interview and an online knowledge assessment.

Following successful completion, you could progress into employment within the electrical sector. This could include roles such as a domestic electrician, electrical supervisor, or further specialisation in areas like renewable energy, electrical design, or inspection and testing.
