As an Engineering Technician, you will become an integral member of a highly skilled team, responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex engineering systems. Your role will involve working with cutting-edge technology and equipment, ensuring that these systems operate efficiently, meet stringent technical specifications, and comply with industry standards. You’ll be at the heart of technological advancements, playing a key role in implementing solutions that enhance the performance and reliability of critical infrastructure and machinery.

This Apprenticeship is designed to provide you with in-depth practical experience and specialised training in various areas of engineering. You’ll develop essential skills such as interpreting technical drawings and documentation, performing precision measurements, and using diagnostic tools to identify and resolve faults. Additionally, you will be trained in safety and compliance practices specific to engineering environments, ensuring that you can carry out your responsibilities with a strong focus on health and safety, quality control, and efficiency.

Course information

This Apprenticeship covers various areas including:

  • interpreting and utilising engineering drawings and technical data
  • operating and maintaining advanced engineering systems
  • conducting quality inspections and precision measurements
  • applying advanced engineering techniques
  • managing engineering projects
  • collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.
This Apprenticeship spans 42 months, providing apprentices with hands-on experience and technical knowledge in various aspects of engineering, such as system operation, equipment maintenance, quality assurance, and project management within an engineering environment.

The entry requirements for this Apprenticeship will be decided by the employer, but may typically be five GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above.

The end-point assessment will consist of an interview (supported by a portfolio of evidence), a professional competence assessment, and a final employer endorsement of both occupational and professional competence.

Following successful completion, you could progress onto employment within the sector. This could include roles such as a maritime electrical fitter, a fabricator, a maintenance technician, etc.
