Full-time: £14,900 (£7,450 per year)

Do you have a passion for, and a commitment to, community and protected services and engagement with stakeholders? This Foundation Degree aims to develop knowledge and understanding of the wide and varied social, political and economic environments that community and protective services operate within. You will have the opportunity to listen to, and network with, serving protective service practitioners and members of other community and protective service organisations through visits, volunteering, guest lectures and work-based delivery. In short, this course will enable you to develop your academic and professional skills so that you can seamlessly progress to your chosen top-up degree course or into the workplace.

Course information

The programme includes the following subjects:

  • 21st century democracy
  • crime and justice studies
  • applied social psychology
  • developing community and protective service competencies
  • equality and diversity
  • community and protective services
  • policy and social justice
  • enterprise and the economy
  • theory of crime and criminal behaviour
  • managing in community and protective services
  • rehabilitation and resettlement.
  • contemporary protective service issues
  • managing people
  • criminology.

You will also develop the knowledge and skills to confidently interact with serving members of the protective services and non-government organisations, and undertake a major research project for public sector organisations such as Devon and Cornwall Constabulary, Devon and Somerset Fire Service, and the Royal Marines.

We welcome applications from those who have all of the following:

  • 32 UCAS tariff points, to include a full level 3 qualification, or T Level pass in an appropriate subject area
  • five GCSEs at grades 4 (C) or above, to include English and maths. APEL may be considered for non-traditional applicants
or alternatively:
  • equivalent qualifications
  • relevant work experience.
Should entry requirements not be met then individual cases will be considered. 

Assessment will be on a continuous basis through a range of assessment criteria including presentations, essays and in-class tasks.
