What's it all about?

This industry endorsed course is carefully designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills and personal attributes for a successful career in one of the public services (including: Armed forces, uniformed services eg Police, Fire Service, Ambulance Service, Armed Forces, Prison Service, HM Revenue and Customs, as well as community services such as Probation and Social Services).  

You will develop personal skills such as discipline, resilience and confidence through parade, drill and fitness sessions readying you for recruitment.

Course information

The course mixes theory and practical knowledge and is reviewed using a variety of industry relevant methods. 

It includes the following key topics: 
  • prepare for career in chosen uniform service 
  • develop aspects of physical fitness for entry to the uniformed services 
  • develop leadership skills 
  • equality diversity and inclusion 
  • uniformed services hierarchy and routine 
  • carry out map reading and navigation across open country 
  • crime scene investigation 
  • understand conflict management and personal protection 
  • telecommunication in the uniformed services 
  • collaboration between uniformed services 
  • mental and physical wellbeing 
  • understanding discipline in the uniformed services
    skills for water-based outdoor and adventurous activities 
  • emergency planning and response in the uniformed services 
  • the influence of UK government international organisations and the media on the uniformed services 
  •  UK legal systems and uniformed services 
  • understanding the impact of war and conflict on uniformed services.

In order to be successful on this course you will need to have five GCSEs at grade four or above, including maths and English.

Assessment methods for this qualification have been co-designed with serving professionals in order to ensure they are relevant and current for working practices. Assessments include reports, presentations, interviews and practical scenarios to ensure retention and understanding of theory and its application. 

Upon successful completion of this course, you can progress onto our Foundation Degree in Community and Public Services. Alternatively, you can seek employment in the public sector of their choice.
