What's it all about?

This Level 2 Certificate in Accounting is suitable for you if you wish to pursue a career in accountancy or finance. The purpose of the programme is to offer a grounding in the core accounting knowledge and skills needed to progress either into employment or to further study. The qualification is suitable for adults returning to work or for anyone wishing to pursue a career change or progression. The course is open to those who are working, or not currently in employment.

Course information

The AAT Foundation certificate in Accounting covers a rage of foundation and finance skills in five units:

  • introduction to bookkeeping
  • bookkeeping controls
  • principles of costing
  • the business environment.
The AAT does not set any prerequisites for the study of the Foundation Certificate in Accounting. However, for the best chance of success we recommend that students have a good standard of English and maths (GCSE level 4 & above). An initial assessment is required and you will need to demonstrate a genuine interest in the subject.
Students starting a level 2 or level 3 qualification after 1 September will pay a one off registration fee which provides access to the qualification for as long as it takes them to achieve it. The registration fee for this course is £172.

This course is marked by computer-based assignments that are set and marked by AAT.

The skills developed by studying this qualification will give you a solid base from which to seek employment with confidence, and/or to progress to the next level of learning. You may wish to progress onto the AAT Advanced Diploma in Accouting or other business and accounting qualifications.
