As a Healthcare Support Worker, you will play a key role in ensuring the well-being of patients by assisting with their daily needs and supporting the work of doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. You’ll have the chance to work in diverse environments, including hospitals, residential care facilities, and community healthcare settings, where your efforts will directly impact the quality of care provided to patients.

Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of duties, from helping patients with personal care tasks, to monitoring their health and well-being. You will be trained to carry out clinical activities such as measuring and monitoring blood pressure, temperature or weight, checking wounds or applying dressings. Additionally, you will play an essential role in creating a comfortable and safe environment for patients, offering emotional support, and contributing to their overall care plans.

Course information

This Apprenticeship covers various areas including:

  • assisting with personal care
  • monitoring health and well-being
  • performing basic clinical tasks
  • upholding professional standards.
This Apprenticeship spans 12 months, offering apprentices hands-on experience and practical knowledge in various aspects of healthcare support, including personal care, clinical assistance, patient monitoring, and collaboration within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

The entry requirements for this Apprenticeship will be decided by the employer, but may typically be five GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above.

The end point assessment will consist of an observation with questions and a professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence. 

Following successful completion, you could progress onto employment within the sector. This could include roles such as a community support worker, a mental health support worker, etc.
