Civil engineers help to create the structures and systems that sustain society. They are responsible for designing, building, maintaining and improving bridges, roads, canals, docks, office buildings, hospitals, schools, airports, power stations, railways, and flood defence facilities everywhere. This HNC is designed for those who are already working in the civil engineering industry in a range of roles, including trainee site engineers or quantity surveyors.

We welcome applications from those who have a minimum of four GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, including maths, English and combined science, and at least one of the following:

  • 56 UCAS tariff points
  • a BTEC National Award in a related subject
  • an Advanced Apprenticeship
  • an NVQ Level 3 in a related subject
  • T Level pass in an appropriate subject area
  • equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience.

Should entry requirements not be met then individual cases will be considered.

Assessment will be through a mixture of coursework, in-class assessments and presentations.

On successful completion of this course, you may be able to progress:

  • to the final year of the Civil Engineering Foundation Degree at the College, following the completion of 40 credits of additional short course study
  • on to a wide range of careers within the engineering industry
  • on to higher levels in order to achieve Chartered status and advancement to higher levels within the civil engineering industry
