As an IT Solutions Technician, you’ll be at the forefront of supporting and optimising IT systems, ensuring that organisations run smoothly and efficiently. You will be responsible for a wide range of IT tasks, from setting up and configuring hardware and software to troubleshooting and resolving technical issues. Your duties will include supporting end-users, maintaining IT infrastructure, and ensuring the security and integrity of data and systems. You will also work on network management, providing essential support for connectivity and communication within the organisation.

This Apprenticeship offers hands-on experience and comprehensive training in vital IT skills. You’ll learn to effectively diagnose and fix technical problems, uphold cybersecurity standards, and work efficiently to support the technological needs of the business. Additionally, you’ll gain valuable insights into IT service management, customer support, and emerging technologies, preparing you to excel in the ever-evolving IT landscape.

Course information

This Apprenticeship will cover various areas including the following:

  • providing technical support to internal and external customers
  • setting people up on Information Technology (IT) systems
  • resolving system issues
  • maintaining and updating computer systems
  • supporting the roll-out of new applications 
  • configuring hardware and software
  • assisting with system upgrades and data migration
  • ensuring security and data protection compliance
  • supporting the development and maintenance of IT documentation
  • monitoring and maintaining computer systems and networks.

This Apprenticeship spans 18 months, combining practical work experience with study. At least 20% of your time will be dedicated to off-the-job training, where you’ll gain valuable knowledge and skills through structured learning and hands-on practice. The remaining 80% will be spent working within a business environment, applying your learning in real-world scenarios.

The entry requirements for this Apprenticeship will be decided by the employer, but may typically be five GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above.

The end point assessment consists of a knowledge test and a project and interview.

Following successful completion, you could progress onto employment within the sector. This could include roles such as a systems manager, an IT administrator, etc.
