Course information

Unit 1 – Role of a Mentor


You will investigate the role and benefits of mentoring and their agreements. You will investigate how mentors are managed and selected as well as explore how you can be supported by internal and external sources.

Unit 2 – Preparing for the Role of a Mentor

You will explore the skills and tools required by a mentor, including communication, questioning, and feedback. You will also look at how you can develop your skills and produce a personal development plan. Finally, you will investigate the legal and ethical requirements of mentoring. 


Unit 3 – Demonstrating Mentor Skills and Techniques

You will prepare to undertake a mentoring meeting and then carry out that meeting whilst being observed by an assessor. Throughout the meeting, you will show that you can give continuous support and feedback to the mentee. You will also reflect on your performance as a mentor and prepare a personal development plan to improve your strengths and meet your development needs. 
This course is ideal for anyone passionate about personal and professional development or empowering others. This course is also great for professionals seeking to mentor others, empower their teams or upskill their CV.  

There are no specific entry requirements for this course.

You will be assessed through a variety of methods which may include:

  • observation
  • oral/written questioning
  • group discussion
  • case study
  • role play
  • written work.

Following successful completion, you could progress onto a variety of different courses at the College.
