What's it all about?

Do you work with children or young people? Are you a parent, volunteer, school governor, or someone considering a career in education or childcare? If so, safeguarding is one of the most important responsibilities you will have.

Our Level 1 Award in Understanding Safeguarding in Education and Childcare Settings is designed to give you the essential knowledge to protect children and young people from harm. This course provides a strong foundation in safeguarding policies, legal requirements, and best practices, ensuring you have the confidence to recognise and respond to safeguarding concerns effectively.

Course information

By the end of the course, you will:

  • understand the legal framework and policies surrounding safeguarding
  • be able to identify signs of abuse, neglect, and exploitation
  • know how to respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns
  • gain confidence in recognising risks such as online safety threats, grooming, and radicalisation
  • be equipped to support and protect the wellbeing of children and young people.

There are no specific entry requirements for this course.

You will complete a workbook, which will be assessed and then reviewed through Internal Quality Assurance (IQA).

On successful completion of this course, you could progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Education.
