As a Metal Fabricator, you’ll play a crucial role in the manufacturing and construction sectors. You will support the creation and assembling of metal structures like bridges, oil rigs, ships, and more. Your tasks will include interpreting technical drawings, using various tools and equipment to cut, shape, and assemble metal components, and ensuring the quality and accuracy of your work. This Apprenticeship offers hands-on experience and opportunities to master skills in a dynamic and challenging environment.

Course information

This Apprenticeship will cover various areas including the following:

  • working safely in compliance with health and safety regulations
  • planning and preparing for metal fabrication activities
  • checking materials and using correct methods for moving and handling
  • setting up and maintaining equipment for metal fabrication
  • using appropriate tools and techniques for shaping and forming metals
  • cutting, drilling, shaping, and joining metal parts
  • conducting quality checks and completing documentation.
This Apprenticeship spans 42 months, combining practical work experience with study. At least 20% of your time will be dedicated to off-the-job training, where you’ll gain valuable knowledge and skills through structured learning and hands-on practice. The remaining 80% will be spent working within a metal fabrication environment, applying your learning in real-world scenarios.

For the best chance of success, learners are required to have a minimum of grade 4 (C) in English and maths.

The end point assessment will consist of a practical observation and a professional discussion.

Following successful completion, you could progress onto employment within the sector. This could include roles such as a mechanical engineer, a metal fabricator, a production operative, etc.
