What's it all about?

Whatever your business aspirations, whether you would like to run your own enterprise, work for a multi-national, or help a small business to grow, this study programme will uncover business techniques to help you on your way. It will be project-led, where you can evidence your learning and skills through running your own team enterprise and visiting Plymouth businesses.

This T-Prep Foundation Programme is for students who would like to progress to a T Level but who would benefit from some additional preparation and the opportunity to retake their GCSE English and/or maths.  This is a great hands-on course that will introduce you to a variety of essential business skills whilst giving you a solid foundation of knowledge on which to build later on in your education. 


Whilst theory is important, your head won’t be stuck in books, you will be out and about, meeting businesses from all over the city to help you understand the types of companies and jobs available in Plymouth. 

Course information

During this one-year course, you will study the following:

  • employability skills
  • presentation skills
  • communication skills
  • understanding business
  • marketing and personal selling.
Your study programme will also include:
  • English and maths (depending on your GCSEs)
  • work experience
  • soft skills
  • other activities to develop your personal skills and best prepare you to progress to a T Level or other suitable course. 

In our experience in order to be successful on this level of course you will need one of the following:

  • four GCSE’s grade 3 or above (D+) (including maths and English)
  • a BTEC foundation diploma in a related subject
  • an NVQ level 1/technical certificate in a related subject
  • successful completion of the Jumpstart programme
  • successful completion of the PLP/Prince’s Trust programme
  • equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience.

You will be assessed through a variety of methods such as:

  • presentations
  • role play
  • assignments. 

On successful completion you could progress to the T Level in Business and AdministrationLegal Services, or Accounting at the College or an alternative level 3 qualification, including an Apprenticeship.
