What's it all about?

This course gives you the confidence and practical tools to build your own future, whether you want to start a business, develop useful skills or explore your next steps. Designed to help you discover your potential and turn your ideas into real-world opportunities, the course will help you learn how to take control of your career path, with no previous experience required.

Alongside the core modules, you will have the opportunity to explore different career options with our internal Careers Team, giving you personalised support to help you find the right route for you.

Course induction will take place on Wednesday 21 October.

Course information

During the one-year course, you will study the following:

Enterprise: you will explore how to identify viable market opportunities, develop an entrepreneurial mindset and bring together core business functions to build a sustainable enterprise from the ground up.

Business plan: you will learn how to turn your business idea into an actionable plan, mapping out your strategy, target market and operational roadmap for launch.

Financial accounting: you will learn how to manage cash flow, track income and expenses and build the financial forecasts needed to keep your venture profitable.

Website design: you will learn how to build a professional, user-friendly website that establishes your brand’s online presence and helps turn visitors into paying customers.

Your study programme will also include:

  • English and maths, depending on your GCSEs 
  • work experience 
  • tutorial.

In order to be successful on this course, you will need one of the following:

  • achieved or working towards functional skills level 1 or level 2 in maths and English
  • achieved GCSE Maths and English at grade 2.

Rather than focusing solely on theory, the certificate emphasises ‘learning by doing’, with assessments typically involving a portfolio of assignments, project work and practical demonstrations.

100% coursework: there are no formal exams for the business units. You will be assessed through portfolios, posters, role-plays and practical demonstrations.

Integrated learning: functional skills or GCSEs in maths and English form part of your weekly timetable, helping you develop the skills you need for employment.

After completing this course, you will be fully supported to progress to further study in a subject area at the College, at a level tailored to you and your goals.
