What's it all about?

If your ambition is to travel the world as cabin crew, or work abroad in a holiday resort, this NCFE ( Northern Council for Education) level 2 qualification is a perfect way to learn more about the aviation and holiday industry. Not only does it cover all aspects of Air Cabin Crew, it also covers Airport and ground operations and working in a resort. This level 2 course will see you taking part in practical assessments using our realistic mock air cabin at the College. There may also be opportunities to visit airports and well known airlines during the course, which will give you the opportunity to meet employers from the aviation and travel industry. 

This is a dynamic sector and the variety of skills learnt on the course could also springboard you into other careers within the leisure and tourism industry, as well as giving you the option to progress to the Travel and Tourism Level 2 and 3 courses here at City College Plymouth.

Course information

You will complete six core units, which include:

  • introduction to airline and aviation operations
  • airline health, safety and security
  • airline emergency procedures
  • crew room duties
  • role of air cabin crew (onboard)
  • preparation for employment as air cabin crew
  • working as cabin crew
  • aircraft emergency situations
  • dealing with passengers on board an aircraft
  • cabin service selling techniques
  • making passenger announcements on board an aircraft aviation communications
  • aviation security
  • airport check in services
  • aircraft boarding and arrival services
  • loading and unloading of aircraft
  • support flight operations
  • investigate employment opportunities for resort representatives
  • understand the role of a representative in a resort
  • prepare for the start of the holiday season
  • manage airport and transport duties
  • investigate the role of the entertainment representative in a holiday resort.

The course includes written assessments and practical assessments that take place in our mock air cabin. There may also be opportunities for airline and airport visits.

Your individualised study programme will be made up of the following four areas:

  • the qualification you are studying
  • English and maths
  • work experience
  • other activities to develop your personal skills eg preparing you for employment, training or further/higher education.

There are no specific entry requirements for this course, however you will need to be ‘water confident’ as there will be a practical assessment in a swimming pool which will be undertaken in the first few weeks.

There will be a mixture of internal and external assessments.

Upon successful completion you may progress to the progress to the Travel and Tourism Level 2 and 3 courses or gain employment with an airline as cabin crew, subject to meeting the individual airline entry requirements.
