This BTEC First Extended Diploma in Applied Science is equivalent to GCSE level and could be a great starting point for you. Remember, all great journeys begin with a single step and this course is for the curious and adventurous. When you successfully complete this course, you can then progress to one of our level 3 courses in forensic, biomedical or marine science and conservation which could be the next step towards university study such as sports science, engineering, medicine, dentistry and animal health. Alternatively, you could enter employment within the broad science/medical industry in roles such as laboratory technician, environmental and health protection and roles involving sample analysis.

What's it all about?
Course information
In our experience in order to be successful on this course you will need one of the following:
- four GCSEs at grades 3-1 (D-F) (including English at grade 3 (D) or higher). In exceptional circumstances, other grades will be considered. This will be based on interview and initial assessment
- a BTEC foundation dipoma
- an NVQ Level 1/technical certificate
- equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience
Upon successful completion of this course, you may progress to our level 3 courses in applied science. Alternatively, you could enter employment within the broad science/medical industry.
The typical sorts of employment opportunities include laboratory technician, environmental and health protection and roles involving sample analysis. You would also be prepared for the first steps in various professions: sports science, engineering, medicine, dentistry and animal health.
