What's it all about?

There are many different types of engineering, making it the perfect career choice for those who like to keep their options open. Despite these differences, one thing all engineers have in common is a desire to somehow make the world a better place. Engineers combine creativity with practical skills to solve problems in a constantly changing world; so for as long as the world keeps on turning, there will always be demand for highly skilled engineers.

This full-time level 2 diploma will introduce you to the different engineering principles that apply to manufacturing and maintenance sectors, giving you a solid foundation of knowledge on which to build on by progressing to a level 3 qualification. Many of the key skills you will develop are required in all fields of engineering, giving you scope to move into the industry of your choosing.

Course information

This course will provide you with underpinning knowledge that is essential for working in this industry whilst also developing the practical skills required by employers. You will study the following:

  • working in engineering
  • principles of engineering technology
  • maintenance of mechanical devices and equipment
  • maintaining electrical equipment and systems
  • assembling and maintaining fluid power systems.

In order to be successful on this course you will need to have gained a grade 3 or above in GCSE English and maths. 

The course is assessed through a range of written assignments, online multiple choice tests, presentations, skills observations and team work exercises.

On successful completion of this course and after achieving a grade 4 or higher in GCSE English and a grade 5 in maths, you will be able to progress to a level 3 qualification such as the Level 3 Diploma in Engineering, a relevant T Level or an Apprenticeship.
