What's it all about?

During your study you will learn, develop and practise the skills required to inspect and test items of electrical equipment in line with the latest edition of the Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment. 

City College Plymouth will provide all tools and equipment required for your training. We offer a free breakfast for all of our students and short course delegates will be given a free lunch voucher to use in our Food Court.

Course information

This course will provide you with the knowledge and practical skills to be able to meet your statutory requirements. The course covers:

  • – understanding the legal requirements for the maintenance of portable and transportable equipment
  • – knowing how electrical equipment is classified and constructed
  • – determining the frequencies of inspection and testing
  • – carrying out formal inspection and testing of electrical equipment and complete meaningful records.

This qualification is approved for candidates aged 18 or above. 

There are no specific entry requirements, however if you don’t have an electrical background, we recommend calling us before booking to check if this course is right for you. 

It is essential that course delegates bring with them the Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment, 5th Edition ISBN 978-1-84-919-626-0.

You are strongly advised to read the Code of Practice prior to attending the course. 

The course includes a practical exercise. You will also be required to sit a City & Guilds multiple-choice one hour online examination. This examination is open-book and you will be required to extract information from the Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (5th Edition). Candidates are strongly advised to read the Code of Practice at least two weeks prior to attending the course

Upon successful completion you may wish to progress to another electrical course at the College, such as Photovoltaic SystemsBattery Storage or Electric Vehicle Charging.
