What's it all about?

The NCFE Level 3 Diploma in Gym Instructing and Personal Training is an industry-recognised qualification designed to equip you with the essential knowledge, practical skills and professional competencies needed to launch a successful career in the fitness industry.

This combined qualification bridges foundational fitness instruction with advanced one-to-one personal training techniques, allowing you to progress seamlessly from floor-level gym supervision to designing bespoke fitness and nutrition programmes for private clients.

Course information

During this course, you will study the following:

  • Anatomy, physiology and biomechanics: in-depth understanding of the human body, its key systems (musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory and endocrine) and movement mechanics during exercise.
  • Client consultation and goal setting: conducting lifestyle assessments, health screening and tailoring fitness goals to individual needs. 
  • Programme design and delivery: planning and delivering safe, structured and goal-orientated exercise sessions for varied client populations. 
  • Nutrition for health and fitness: applying principles of nutrition, body composition and energy balance to support performance and personal goals. 
  • Professional practice and business: setting up a personal training service, developing client retention strategies and adhering to industry safety standards and regulations.

In order to be successful on this course you will need to hold a Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification.

You will be assessed by completing your work in a classroom environment, with work assessed internally on a unit-by-unit basis. You will also be expected to complete an externally based portfolio.

Upon successful completion, you may progress to the BSc Strength and Conditioning Foundation Degree at the College.
