What's it all about?

There is an estimated 1.4 billion motor vehicles in the world. Calculations tells us that if we were to park every car nose-to-tail, this line would stretch from London to Sydney and back, twice!

This figure is predicted to rise to 2.8 billion by 2036 which is great for the industry and for people’s personal freedom. However, as we become more aware of the threat to the planet, the industry is shifting towards a more sustainable and greener future.

This full-time level 2 qualification, will start to develop your technical abilities whilst introducing you to some of the key principles of light vehicle maintenance and repair, putting you in the driving seat and on course to being a future industry leader.

Course information

This course involves studying both the theory and practical aspects of the following:

  • health, safety and good housekeeping in the automotive environment
  • support for job roles in the automotive environment
  • materials, fabrication, tools and measuring devices used in the automotive environment
  • plan, prepare, carry out and report on routine light vehicle maintenance
  • remove and replace light vehicle engine mechanical and lubrication systems, heating and cooling systems, electrical units and components and chassis units and components
  • knowledge of removing and replacing light vehicle transmission and driveline units and components.

Your individualised study programme will be made up of the following four areas:

  • the qualification you are studying
  • English and maths
  • work experience
  • personal skills development activities.

 

In our experience in order to be successful on this level of course you will need at least one of the following:

  • four GCSEs at grades 3-1 (D-F) (including grade 3 (D) in English, maths and science, or a level 1 diploma at merit grade)
  • a BTEC foundation diploma in a related subject
  • a level 1/technical certificate in Automotive Technology
  • or equivalent qualifications.
and:
  • relevant work experience.

You will be assessed through a variety of practical tasks and assessments, and online and paper exams.

On successful completion you may progress to:

If you do go into employment you could complete the NVQ element of this diploma, adding value to your qualification.
