What's it all about?

This course is designed to give you the introductory skills and knowledge required to begin a career in the sports and active leisure industry. The course covers both level 1 and level 2 criteria and a variety of industry-standard units and experiences which aim to provide you with the best available skills and knowledge to progress towards your career goal. The embedding of level 1 programme inside this level 2 course allows you to collaborate and share ideas, whilst also working to achieve your aims. 

Course information

The course involves a variety of theoretical and practical units. These may include:

  • anatomy and physiology
  • health and exercise
  • nutrition
  • participating in sport
  • sports coaching
  • event planning
  • developing fitness
  • sports volunteering.

In order to be successful on this course you must have a keen interest in sport.

This course contains elements of both theory and practical assessments. The assessments will range from written reports, presentations, interviews and working with members of the public. The aim of all assessment methods is to ensure the relevant industry and personal skills are being developed, and that you have a chance to use them in the real world environment.

On successful completion of the course you will gain the skills and knowledge required to progress to the College’s Level 3 Diploma in Sport or Level 2 Certificate in Instructing Exercise in a Gym Environment.
