What's it all about?

This course is designed to give you the introductory skills and knowledge required to begin a career in the sports and active leisure industry. The course covers a variety of industry-standard units and experiences which aim to provide you with the best available skills and knowledge to progress.

Course information

The course involves a variety of theoretical and practical units.

These may include:

  • anatomy and physiology
  • health and exercise
  • nutrition
  • participating in sport
  • sports coaching
  • event planning
  • developing fitness
  • sports volunteering.

In order to be successful on this course you must have at least four GCSEs at grade 3 or above.

This course contains elements of theory and practical assessments. The assessments can vary from essays and presentations in the classroom, to working with members of the public in the sportshall. The aim of all assessment methods is to ensure the relevant skills are being developed, and that you have a chance to use them in the real world.

On successful completion of the course you will gain the skills and knowledge required to progress to the College’s Level 3 Diploma in Sports course.
